What is Psychotherapy
Many people are not exactly sure what psychotherapy is. Psychotherapists
provide both, psychotherapy and counseling. Often times people feel that
psychotherapy is only for people with major psychological problems and
disturbances. Some people might associate the word psychotherapy with
"psycho", meaning you have to be "crazy" to go to
therapy. This is simply not the case. Psychotherapy is appropriate and
useful for high functioning people who want to improve the quality of
their lives or seek personal growth.
Fees and Time
Hourly session fees are comparable to private therapy in the Bay Area.
You will discuss the fee upon initial phone contact. Weekly or bi-weekly
meetings for 50-minute sessions are typical. Your goals will indicate
how long you will find therapy beneficial. Some specific goals can be
successfully reached in
4 -10 sessions. The length of therapy really depends on what you would
like to accomplish.
Insurance
Health insurance plans differ
regarding mental health benefits. Direct payment of each session is required
at the time of each visit. You may want to utilize your insurance benefits
and get reimbursed for sessions.
